Khong 1st Overall in Pro-grass.

Shah Alam 8th June – Grass Racing Autosports also known
as GRA ran their second round of their autocross
championships in Shah Alam. This year’s championship is
sponsored by Red Line Synthetic Oils, Meguiar’s Detailing
Products, Vanli Genuine Parts and Gophers Personal
Navigation System, will be the long staying partners of GRA.
The GRA Autocross races are supported and sanctioned
by MAM, the local governing body for motorsports in
Malaysia
. Ian Khong ambassador to GRA made the course very tricky
this time, making it the hardest and most technical course
for any autocross ever ran in Malaysia. |

The day
proved to be very challenging even for Ivan Khong in a Subaru who
took 1st Overall in his class. Despite suffering a
leaking turbo he still managed to keep ahead. Andy Kow in a
similar Subaru was the fastest driver of the day however his
combined times of his two runs, missed out on Ivan only by
less than a second. Surprise 3rd Overall winner was
Jason Foo from Team Red Line piloting a Proton Satria Mivec. In
fourth and fifth overall was Marcus Chye in a Lotus followed by
Soo Seng Kuan respectively in a Honda Civic.

GRA
R208 Grass Calss A, 1st place - Wong Kang Yoon

The
Grass Class drivers started out in the morning with a
slightly damp track. Class A up 1300cc had Wong Kang Yoon in
a Proton Iswara winning the race convincingly. Charlene Khoo
the fastest lady of the day and also from Team Meguiar’s
Jalan Templer managed a 2nd position despite
driving an automatic Kelisa. Following in 3rd
place was Azlan B. Munajat, in a similar Kelisa entering for
the first time. The first incident of the day went to Kevin
Kok in a Perodua Kancil that went airborne over two drains
and landed on the pavement.

Garick
Goh took 1st place in GRA R208 Grass Class B.
|
|
|
|
In
Class B up to 1600cc, Garick Goh took 1st place
with his Proton Satria with Julian Foo coming in 2nd
in a similar Proton Satria. Charlie Ling in a Toyota Levin
AE86 took 3rd position. In the Automatic Class up
to 1600cc Class AA, William Lim once again proved that he is
the fastest taking 1st place. 2nd and
3rd place went to the pairs of Tuah Damak and
Adam Marcos both brothers sharing a Honda Civic EG8. For
Class AB Automatic cars up to 2500cc, Chee Tun Poey emerged
victorious thanks to his closest competitor Victor Lim in a
Ford Lynx RS suffering curb damage on his tires, forcing him
to retire with only one run claiming 2nd spot. |

The
Pro-Grass drivers started the afternoon session with good weather,
and most parts of the track had dried off. In Class OA, Kenneth
Chiew of Team Meguiar’s Racing won in easy fashion in his Proton
Wira Aeroback with Kelvin Chong and Woo Keen Pong of Team Vanli
taking 2nd and 3rd respectively in similar
Perodua Kancils.

OB
1300cc-1600cc had the battle of the Hondas versus the Protons with
the Hondas taking the top positions. Galen Lai in a Honda Civic
took 1st place with Maharith B.Mahat in a Proton Wira
in 2nd, splitting the two Hondas with Christopher Chin
in another Honda
Civic EG as well in 3rd.
Roslan B. Saad in his second ever Autocross event, suffered
an excursion on the practise run at the similar corner as Kevin
Kok. He understeered his Proton Satria into a large drain. Efforts
by the marshals managed to pull his car out, however he had to
retire due to a broken radiator. Gareth Tan in a spanking new 2
week old Honda Integra took home the ‘Bling-Bling’ award for
being the most outstanding car on race day.

Class OC 1601cc-1800cc, Jason Foo from Team Red Line clinched 1st
position.

clinched 1st position piloting a Proton Satria
Mivec. Soo Seng Kuan in a Honda Civic EG and Daymen Lai in a
Honda CRX managed a 2nd and 3rd
respectively. In Class OC Novice driver, Daymen Lai took his
first ever win with Adrian Tan and Mitch Chong following in
2nd and 3rd. For Class OD 2000cc and
beyond, Ivan Khong won in convincing fashion taking 1st
in a Subaru WRX with Andy Kow in 2nd place with
the same identical car. Marcus Chye took 3rd
place, with his Lotus. |

The
course proved to be a tricky one with higher technical aspect to
every sector. Some of the Pro-Drivers were also caught out such as
Marcus Chye with a late braking into a curb, Julian Pang missing a
curb, Daymen Lai climbing a tree, Roslan going into a drain. The
track proved to be very punishing as well, with a few cars
suffering from broken driveshafts and engines.

CK Lim from Vanli Genuine Parts said, ‘ GRA is a really
good platform for new drivers, and the response has been
good after Round 1. We hope to provide more drivers a
resource for them to get parts and we have even setup a
special service just to cater for the community as well’.
Mr.
Selva from Gophers Personal Navigation System said, ‘ We
are really proud to be a part of the GRA family. We are
looking forward in working with GRA for synergies and our
GPS will certainly help in the area of travelling for
them’. |

regular name amongst car enthusiast and has brought us along
for the ride. Our Team has done well in the race, along with
our dealer in Jalan Templer that is sponsoring Charlene
Khoo’s car. We are looking forward to Round 3, and aim to
take home more trophies’.
Mr.
Howard Goh of Red Line said, ‘ Team Red Line is now
upstaging some faster cars in Open Class. I think it is not
about how fast a car is but how well it is prepped and what
our products can do for it. We will look forward to Round 3
where the race is going to a new location’. |

RaceQueens graced the course in the afternoon for the photo
opportunities. Ivan Khong now leads the championship with Andy Kow,
Marcus Chye, and Jason Foo following in hot pursuit.
