SHELL IT INTERNATIONAL CYBERJAYA VISITS PROTON R3 FACTORY

June 06, 2007

Today's a big day, as today’s the day of our Kelab Shell Cyberjaya Car Care Club (C3) factory tour booked with Proton R3.  The tour starts at 10:00am,and we will meet up at Petronas USJ Summit by 9:00 am for a safety briefing. Jimmy Chew, bought us all breakfast at a nearby “mamak”, and shot plenty of photos of us. He is really into photography.

At 9:40am I contacted Tengku Djan Ley, the head division of Proton R3 Motorsports and informed him to wait for us at the Proton front entrance. I drove leading the rest of the cars, which is like about 15 minutes away, to Shah Alam the Proton R3 factory.  Dennis Woo was tagging along in my car; he is a pretty friendly and a big fan of Proton. We both chatted about cars the whole trips and god, I knew that the day we are going to have a lot of fun.

We finally arrived at 10:00am sharp. We went to the guardhouse and registered, unfortunately 2 of our gal are not allowed to go in, sigh! Number 1 factory rule is no skirt or shorts are allowed in the premises.  I contacted Djan to seek his advise, good lord, he managed to find a factory work overall for the two gals. That solved the issue for the moment, and off we continue.

Proton is a very huge factory, we will have to take a shuttle bus to the R3 factory, but since everyone is busy that day, we all hopped in their “souped up” Proton Waja R3, Juara, Perdana V6 and the Proton Satria R3. It was getting excited as we all are ridding in R3 research and development car aka their “test toys”. I can’t believe it, we are finally there. Djan welcomed us to his playground.

We started the tour in main factory showroom. For the couple of minutes the guys drooled over the cars, taking pictures, looking at the rims, and wishing they had a lot more money to be able to afford such a piece of cars.  We all are like a bunch of small kids, drooling for a chocolate bars! Hi.hi.hi

Djan gave us a brief overview of the history of the cars. He has been involved with many racings and production vehicles; his knowledge of these cars is deep and personal.  There we saw how the performance cars were hand built from the first step to the end.  He then guided us to each of the section and we did saw some of his workers working, head under the hood talking to an engineer and pointing to the engine parts. Dennis Woo and I were besides Djan and we actually got to shake hands with the engineers and mechanics and have a photo taken.  Yes, it is an excellent morning to begin with.

We toured until the end of the factory. We took a break before lunch and refreshed ourselves with some cool mineral waters. It really felt good. Some of us still look around from where they started back and took photos. Some of us even tried to get any 2nd stuff from the factory; Sugu book a complete set of Proton Waja R3 body kits which cost him RM4500 below retail price. He really knows how to make Djan happy.

The tour ended at 12:15pm. Djan presenting us with a goodie bag each, wow; we all received a R3 workshirt, a R3 carbon fibre key chain, some stickers and a brochure.

Everybody walk away with a big smile.

We all drove back to Subang Taipan

We ate lunch at KFC across the street while chatting about an Autoshow in Metropolitan College started at 3pm later.  What a day!

We most definitely had a lot of fun in Proton R3 factory today.  From the bottom of our heart, C3 would like to thanks Tengku Djan and his crewmembers, R3 factory and Proton for the friendly and knowledgeable tours.

We will look forward in future for this kind of educational tours.

Thanks you Djan & Proton R3 factory.
